All of this week I have shared just some of my favourite memories from this year. Today I want you to think about what your favourite memory of the year has been. Please write a paragraph explaining why it was your favourite experience and then please draw a picture to go with it!

Although we haven’t finished the year together, we have made so many lasting memories throughout the year, memories that I will never forget and I hope you don’t too!

Let’s make sure we hold onto these memories and build on them as we look forward to going into year 5 together!

Hopefully by now you have created your sequel. Next year, you will have many opportunities to continue to be creative with your writing and also take ownership of your own writing – which means that you will make many choices to determine what your writing will be like.

Today, I want you to choose how to retell your story through the form of a comic strip, but I want you to choose what type of template to use. I have given some examples below, so you can draw these boxes on your paper or you can create your own comic strip template if you wish.

Have fun retelling it through illustrations, captions and the callouts that I’ve also posted below. Make them bright, colourful and exciting to read!

Today I want you to finish writing the sequel to For the Birds in the form of a story.

Use your responses to the questions yesterday to help you make a start to the writing today. You might want to follow this format to help you:

Paragraph 1

Introduce the characters (are they birds or are they different animals?)

What is the problem? Who isn’t showing respect, resilience or one of the other 5 Rs?

Paragraph 2

Build up a bit of suspense and add humour – how can you engage the readers to get them interested in the problem?

What are the characters doing? What do they say? How can you make the readers understand about the message of the story?

Paragraph 3

What is the resolution to the problem?

How do the characters ensure the readers fully understand the message of the story?

Can you add a bit of humour to this section to keep the reader entertained?

Paragraph 4

Final closing statement to give the message you want to share?

Put emphasis on the 5R that is important to your message?

Can you add a final bit of humour like the birds being naked in the For the Birds video?

Good morning everyone!

Can you believe that this is the last week of you being in year 4? Today we have most of those children currently learning at home coming in for their final outdoor learning session, so please do wave through the windows as you see them walking around the one way system! For those in the classrooms, I will catch up with you this afternoon if the weather allows and we can spend some time together outside! Have a nice day everyone!

Challenge 2

Word Power

English

For the final week of English learning for this year, I would like you to plan, draft, edit and then publish a sequel to the For the Birds video.

Today I would like you to plan the sequel.

Have a go at answering these questions to help you plan the sequel:

  1. What did you enjoy about the For the Birds video?
  2. What message did the story give? Was the Big Bird treated fairly and respectfully?
  3. What message would you like to give if you created a video like this one?

Your message should be related to one of our 5 Rs – her are the definitions to help get you thinking:

Respect – a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.

Relationships – the way in which two or more people or things are connected, or the state of being connected.

Resourcefulness – the ability to find quick and clever ways to overcome difficulties.

Resilience – the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness.

Reflection – the throwing back by a body or surface of light, heat, or sound without absorbing it.

4. How can you make the sequel entertaining?

I hope you have fun with this and plan a fantastic sequel with a key underlying message that is important to you!

Home Learning for 7.7.20

Good morning!

It was great seeing you yesterday on Zoom, for those that I didn’t catch up with I will ring you this week or check in with you at school. I hope you enjoy todays learning…

Early Bird Maths

Have you got maths eyes?

Mosaic:

Here are the two problem solving activities linked to multiplication for today – I hope you enjoy the pirate theme that will run for the week!!!

Word Power

English

Today I want you to create some dialogue between the two birds. In the video it appears that they don’t communicate to each other apart from barging, pushing and nipping!! So what would they be saying to each other. When writing dialogue I want you to remember the following:

  • Inverted commas around the spoken words
  • Comma to separate the spoken words and the speaker
  • Capital letter to start the spoken words
  • Alternative words to said
  • New line for a new speaker

For example:

Big Bird gracefully requested “Please may I spend a bit fo time on your delightful looking wire?”

Teasingly, the bold, hypocritical birds turned the other way and exclaimed “Look at that funny looking creature, with his weird, pointy feathers!”

Here are the pictures to help you create the dialogue:
