Home Learning for 1.5.20

Early Bird Maths

Please complete one, two or all three of the following:

Maths

Please choose from the two activities below:

or…

Abundant Numbers

To find the factors of a number, you have to find all the pairs of numbers that multiply together to give that number.

The factors of 48 are:

1 and 48

2 and 24

3 and 16

4 and 12

6 and 8

If we leave out the number we started with, 48, and add all the other factors, we get 76:

1+2+3+4+6+8+12+16+24=76

So …. 48 is called an abundant number because it is less than the sum of its factors (without itself). (48 is less than 76.)

See if you can find some more abundant numbers!

Here is the solution to this activity:

Word Power

Adding ing, er and ed.

If the final syllable of the root word is stressed and ends with one consonant and one vowel before that, then double the last consonant.

Who doesn’t like watching the birds feed outside, especially when there’s little else happening at the moment? Use a large four-pint milk bottle and felt tips to colour the plastic, you could also stick paper, feathers and other things on to make them bright and colourful.

It’s always lovely to get hand prints and foot prints to capture that moment in time. Why not get the whole family involved and create a picture from hand prints of everyone in the house?

Good morning everyone!

Rocky came into school yesterday to help me with my work and to also yap at everything that moved! He did enjoy taking Harry for a walk though..

Early Bird Maths

Please complete one, two or all three of the following:

Maths

LO: To solve missing digit divisions

To work out what goes in the missing box, we need to work out the inverse.

For example for the first one I would do: 884 = 22

I can count in 4s until I get to 88 or I use what I know and that is 4 x10=40 and 4x20=80, then 80+2 lots of 4 = 88 so there are 22 lots of 4 in 88.

There is a mistake in these calculations, well done Martha for spotting it! Can you find out which calculation is incorrect and why? 🙂

You don’t need to be speaking throughout the whole video so when you’re writing your transcript remember this.

Please ensure you include the following:

Capital letters and full stops

You could write about:

Please be as creative and mischievous as you like! Remember though, the skill i’d like you to include is fronted adverbials.

Fronted adverbials are words or phrases placed at the beginning of a sentence which are used to describe the action that follows. Here are some examples:

After the rain stopped, Mrs Twit went outside into the garden.

The Twits – one of my favourite books to read.

I wanted to share this with you because I know you will enjoy it. Some of you may have read it already which is great, this will help you over the coming weeks. First of all, I’d like you to read the book. If you don’t have the book at home, here is a link to an audio of it which you can listen to over the next couple of days.

For today, I want you to draw a picture of Mr Twit and Mrs Twit (if you don’t know what they look like, you may  have to use your imagination after watching the above trailer to create your own image). After this I want you to create a mind map full of words to describe the two characters.

Both of these challenges work best with a partner but if you do not have one available, you can complete the balances against a wall. Remember to hold the balance for at least 10 seconds!!! Like a statue! 🙂

Home Learning for 20.4.20

Hello!!!

I hope you’ve all had a lovely break from home learning, eaten lots of chocolate and managed to get outside when possible for some fresh air! It will be good to get back into a routine over the coming weeks, so I will set home learning every day (I will post it on here by 5pm for the following day) for you to follow. There is room to be flexible with the learning I am posting – ultimately your family at home are in charge so please listen to how best they want to organise this! 🙂

As ever, if you need to contact me then please drop me an email. Mrs Meynell, Mrs Bennet and myself will be ringing round you all this week to check in with you to see how you are getting on and if you need support with anything.

Maths

The above link (grid method) can be used to complete larger multiplications, so please refer to this throughout the week if needed. Today I want you to recap a practical method that will help you understand what multiplication means. An easy way to show this is through arrays. Rocky wanted to make an appearance too!

Please make your own sets of arrays using whatever you can find in and around your home for the following totals:

_ x _ = 20

_ x _ = 21

_ x _ = 32

_ x _ = 45

Challenge: How many different factor pairs and sets of arrays can you create for one calculation?

Free Write day:

I would like you to write about one special moment you’ve had throughout the last two weeks. Tell me what you did? Why was it so special? Who was involved? Where was it? Draw a picture to go with it with labels or captions.

At the start of the Easter holidays, I asked you to try and achieve a personal goal; for example ride your bike, bake a cake, tie your laces complete a run under a specific time etc. My personal goal was to achieve 1000 kick ups…however I haven’t quite made it! I will keep going until I do. Here is a video of my best attempt. Can you count how many I did?
