We have begun our text The Explorer and as I suspected the children are already hooked. For homework they are going to design a front cover for the text. As a class we decided essential criteria for enticing front covers, these are:

• Striking colours
• Interesting pictures that help us decide what the book is about (prediction)
• Title, author and illustrator names
• Blurb with cliff hanger to make us read on without giving away too much
• Review(s) from happy readers, possibly a star rating.

Attached is book line which the children will have been given at school but just in case you a spare. Also attached is this week’s spellings list, again this will be sent home. Please also encourage your child to read for one hour per week. This can be books, magazines, e-books or on reading plus, let me know if your child has forgotten their password.

Also this week as a school we are promoting the Big Pedal so come to school on self-driven wheels or on foot and the count goes towards our collective total.
